How To Join The Grange
Membership
in the Grange is open to anyone of good moral character age 14 and up.
The Grange is a family organization where men and women meet together
as equals. It is a simple process to
become a member of the Grange family:
1. Contact your local Grange
and they will inform you about their dues.
2. Submit your completed
application to the Grange with your dues (pro-rated for the year) and
the initiation fee of $5.00.
3. The Grange will inform you
about time and location of the initiation ceremony.
4. Attend the ceremony and
you will be a member.
5. Attend your Grange and
make a difference in your life and in your community.
What is the Initiation
Ceremony or Degrees?
New
members are welcomed into the Grange family with an initiation
ceremony. This ceremony is often done in an afternoon at a
“Degree Day.”
The
initiation ceremony (which we often call degrees) introduces new
members to the Grange through the beautiful phrases and language of
formal English of the 1870's.
Symbolism: The
lessons taught during the degrees are presented through symbolism drawn
from nature, the farm, and household.
Lessons: During
the Degrees basic lessons to guide the conduct of good people are
presented. These lessons are relevant to every person today.
Preparation: Having
an open mind is the only preparation that a you must take, but set
aside 3 hours for the ceremony.
Levels: The
degrees consist of the first four for the Subordinate, the fifth for
the Pomona, the Sixth for the State, and the seventh for the National
Grange.
A member is only initiated once in each degree. If their membership
ever lapses, they merely reinstate.
